ASSISTANT MANAGER, BUILDING

General Functions
   This position assists the Division Manager with the supervisory functions relating to the administration of County ordinances, policies and procedures. The position is also responsible to assists with the management of the daily activities, programs and operations of the Building Division.

Work is performed with independence under the direction of the Building Manager and is reviewed on a regular basis through observations and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Reviews the Division's goals, objectives, programs and work methods to ensure efficiency of operation and effectiveness of program implementation.
  • Responsible for various personnel matters, including performance appraisals and discipline.
  • Monitors staff activities for efficiency, accountability and conformance with County personnel policies.
  • Monitors operational budget and inventory control processes. Assist in preparing division's budget.
  • Ensures proper plan review, permitting and inspection services are provided.
  • Manages the repair/replacement of the Division's vehicles, other related expenses and inspector's uniforms.
  • Monitors drive cam reports and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Investigates customer complaints and administer enquires.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for special projects.
  • Assists customers with complicated projects or unique permit process issues.
  • Coordinates permitting activities with other reviewing departments/agencies.
  • Serves as the Building Manager in his/her absence.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Public or Business Administration, Construction Management or a closely related field and five years experience in construction or public administration to include four years with progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in a building department or construction environment. Additional years of the specified experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
