General Functions
  

This key position assists veterinarians in ensuring shelter pets receive prompt and proper medical care and continued monitoring for individual health and welfare. Responsibilities span pre-operative, surgical, and post-operative care, including technical tasks, data entry, client communication, and sanitation duties. This role is integral to the effectiveness of the clinic team and the overall shelter operation. The clinic fosters a respectful, supportive environment that emphasizes flexibility and cooperation.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Clinic Supervisor or other supervisory personnel. Work is reviewed and evaluated for satisfactory performance.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Prepares the prep room and surgery room, including setup of oxygen, vaccines, and diagnostic tools.
  • Sedates and preps animals for surgery.
  • Monitors animals before, during, and after surgery.
  • Cleans and sanitizes clinic areas, kennels, and surgical instruments.
  • Administers medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
  • Releases animals to fosters, rescues, or adopters and provides instructions on post-operative care and Division policies.
  • Documents veterinary care, staff communications, and relevant case details in digital systems.
  • Provides information on clinic services and supports the mission and vision of Animal Services.
  • May assist on the mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic and drives the mobile unit.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience interacting with the public, including at least six (6) months in a veterinary technician position. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

 
Preferences
  

Ability to safely and effectively restrain large dogs and cats, communicate clearly with coworkers and the public, and follow veterinary instructions accurately.
