SENIOR MAIL CLERK

General Functions
   Assists the Mail Room Supervisor in the coordination of centralized mail service for departments and activities under the Board of County Commissioners.

Supervision is received from the Mail Room Supervisor or other designated supervisor and is reviewed through observation, conferences, results obtained and periodic reports.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Participates in the efficient receipt, sorting and delivery of a variety of interoffice mail, postal mail and supplies.
  • Resolves basic mail operations issues. Functions as primary contact for mail operations inquiries.
  • Trains new hires on mail room processes and procedures. Assigns and reviews the daily work of Mail Clerks.
  • Receives and sorts mail. Operates equipment such as a mail scale, postage meter, automatic letter opener and assures that the meter is properly maintained and has sufficient postage. Maintains supplies and materials.
  • Calculates and affixes correct postage to letters and packages. Provides customer service to County staff regarding postal services and special mailings. Assists departments in processing high volume mailings. Responds to concerns and questions from both internal and external customers.
  • Assures that mail is properly routed by updating the names of officials, directors, managers, employees, departments and divisions. Determines correct addressees for returned or misdirected mail.
  • Makes regular deliveries to the post office and County buildings on an assigned route and schedule.
  • Maintains various logs, records and files.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   High School diploma or equivalent and two years of mail room experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License or ability to obtain a State of Florida Driver’s License within six months of hire date.
 
Preferences
   Mail Room supervisor or team lead experience.

Knowledge of Orange County property locations.
