Crotty, County Chairman Board of County Commissioners FROM: Randy Singh, Manager, 0MB flf ^ -^- SUBJECT: Consent Agenda Item for March 30, 2004 Law Enforcement Trust Fund Expenditure Sheriff's Office Request The Orange County Sheriff's Office is requesting to spend $3,000 from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for the following purposes: Contributions 1. Lakeside Alternatives - $1,000. This program receives referrals from law enforcement officers who respond to situations where individuals are committing crimes that may be a result of substance abuse or mental illness. Services are provided to help identify the problems and provide specific needs for those individuals to get them the help that is needed. Lakeside Alternatives also manages an emergency shelter for children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse and identifies what services they need to provide to them while they are awaiting placement in a foster care home. 2. Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida - $1,000. These forfeiture funds will be utilized to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. By reaching children at an early age and providing positive activities and encouragement, Boys and Girls Clubs provide a compelling alternative to youth crime, gang membership, drug use, and other negative influences that affect our youth today. 3. Weekends of Greater Orlando, Inc.- $500. It is the mission of this program to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens by providing drug, alcohol and crime prevention programs to them. 4. Project Graduation William R. Boone High School - $500. This program will offer a safe alternative for graduating high school seniors by providing a drug, tobacco and alcohol-free evening, which will help prevent alcohol and drug related traffic fatalities.
