General Functions |
|
Performs skilled electrical repairs and preventive maintenance duties in an industrial plant environment, major building complex, or water/water reclamation field. Installs, trouble shoots and repairs new and existing controls and instrumentation as needed to upgrade and update equipment including incoming electrical services. Tests motors, generators, lighting and power distribution systems. Troubleshoots and repairs variable frequency drives and other motor controls. Supervises other technicians/electricians in the repair and maintenance of process equipment and/or building support systems.
Work is performed under the general direction of a higher level supervisor. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on assignment:
- Troubleshoots and repairs controls and electrical on heavy industrial equipment including drives, generators, up to 12,500 volt power distribution equipment. Maintains and troubleshoots large horsepower motors up to 1000 HP.
- Performs skilled electrical work which involves maintenance and troubleshooting of Utilities lift stations, water/reclaimed water plants and facilities.
- Supervises, trains and participates in the installation of low and medium voltage wiring, installing lights, switches and equipment required to maintain a safe working area or for the restoration of communications systems. Repairs and maintains motor control centers up to 12,500 volts.
- Manages arc flash compliance programs and safety protocols in a live environment.
- Troubleshoots control systems equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics. Uses technical manuals and prints to isolate and repair control systems.
- Operates, maintains, updates and repairs sophisticated electrical power distribution controls.
- Performs electrical preventative maintenance on motors in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Refills or replaces all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment.
- Uses multimeter instruments for troubleshooting to identify voltage and ensure the safety of the work location. Oversees the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs troubleshooting and maintenance for all levels of infrastructure in water/water reclamation plants and lift station operation; works with mechanical and electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), fuses, breakers and contactors.
- Works with hand tools, climbs ladders and/or opens working pull boxes to run various types of cables.
- Interprets Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) / PLC which involves reading and understanding logic and data trends used in troubleshooting equipment.
- Utilizes a work order management system to capture and record electrical failures, views historical data, report time and resources expended to complete work orders.
- Prepares detailed scope of work requirements for work requiring utilization of outside contractors.
- Provides review and input of term contracts for UP systems, electrical maintenance, repair, testing and diagnostic services.
- Provide review and input of electrical related projects, schematics, plans and drawings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician
or
Six years of training and graduation from a vocational school or program and 2 years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial environment
or
Eight years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial environment
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire or promotion.
Based on area of assignment, must have the ability to perform in confined spaces and use safety equipment including respirator equipment per Orange County requirements.

Preferences |
|
State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician
Medium voltage electrical work experience
Familiar with and utilized the National Electrical Code (NEC) standards associated with motors and generators
Experience in water, wastewater or industrial operations and processes
Familiarity with local Orange County electrical codes
