General Functions |
|
This position serves as a technical director for the NELAP/TNI accreditation by auditing processes and supervises technical staff to conduct environmental sample analysis and research studies that benefit Orange County.
This position is responsible to research and develop a plan of action to support operational and/or regulatory needs as required by environmental regulations.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Serves as Technical Director for NELAP/TNI Accreditation.
- Supervises chemists, senior chemists, staff scientists, technologists, student interns and on-call scientists in performance of analytical testing services and method development.
- Coordinates, develops, supervises, manages, schedules and conducts pilot testing.
- Compiles, reviews, analyses and interprets data to make effective decisions.
- Prepares complex technical reports and presentations for regulatory agencies and customers and attends technical symposia to facilitate information transfer.
- Maintains the laboratory sections and equipment at a level ensuring continued laboratory accreditation.
- Researches and recommends analytical methods and equipment to support operational needs.
- Acts as a technical resource for all subordinate staff.
- Assists in the preparation of the laboratory budget.
- Makes recommendations for new methods and equipment in preparation for future regulatory requirements.
- Maintains Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Customizes report generation applications as required by regulatory agencies and clients.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Computer Science or a closely related field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience to include three (3) years of supervisory experience. Supervisory experience can be large project management or supervision of personnel. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for Windows, and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Preferences |
|
Master’s Degree or Ph. D from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Computer Science or other related field. Experience in research study design and management; publication and presentation of technical papers. Experience with administration of databases and LIMS applications. |
