| General Functions |

Responsible for planning and coordinating Biology, Chemistry and Sampling and Inspection Operations for the Orange County Utilities and responsible for scientific research for the operations of the Department.
Distinguishing Characteristics of Work
This is a supervisory position and is responsible for ensuring analytical and laboratory compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations.
This position will responsible for communicating with internal and external clientele and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Will ensure that staff is properly trained and are following updated protocols, laboratory and safety procedures.

| Representative Duties /Assignments |
| |
- Coordinates and performs R&D and pilot studies for new and existing processes associated with water, wastewater and resource recovery.
- Develops and implements new procedures as required by the regulating agencies.
- Responsible for report generation for internal and external projects in response to regulatory requirement.
- Maintains and supports instrument operational applications.
- Maintains laboratory performance at a level ensuring continued laboratory certification.
- Checks result for accuracy and/or abnormalities and immediately inform the affected division to make any necessary adjustments.
- Reviews quality control data to maintain laboratory standards.
- Plans and conducts technical research studies to meet the needs of the Department and to comply with changing regulations within the industry.
- Assists in the preparation of the laboratory budget.
- Advises other divisions on regulatory compliance issues.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field and six years of laboratory experience to include two years of supervisory experience.
