General Functions |
|
This is professional administrative and curatorial work in managing and directing the activities and projects of the Orange County Regional History Center. The employee in this position is responsible for the overall management of the Regional History Center with regard to curatorial, exhibits, research, fundraising, public programs, facility operations and fosters alliances with community partners. The employee is also appointed to the position of the Executive Director of the Historical Society in accordance with the by-laws of the Historical Society of Central Florida, Inc. and the agreement between Orange County and the Historical Society.
Work is performed with significant independence and initiative under the general supervision of the Family Services Director. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievements of desired results.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Serves as the Executive Director of the Historical Society of Central Florida, Inc.
- Provides direction and leadership to all staff assigned to the Regional History Center. Directs and ensures development of division goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Ensures collections are obtained, organized and maintained in accordance with established Museum Standards.
- Serves as the primary contact with the Historical Society of Central Florida and provides status updates regarding operations, funding activities and policy matters.
- Provides direction to ensure Orange County and Historical Society guidelines and procedures are followed.
- Responsible for managing assets of Orange County and the Historical Society and ensures appropriate fiscal management procedures are in place.
- Develops plans for long and short term capital improvements or repairs for the Regional History Center.
- Ensures buildings and its infrastructure are adequately maintained.
- Provides direction and assistance to the Historical Society Director of Development related to funding activities.
- Directs the development of public educational programs. Ensures the research library is operational and serves the general public.
- Provides reports and briefing, as required, to the Orange County Mayor, Board of County Commissioners, the Historical Society of Central Florida, County Administrator and Department Director.
- Develops and maintains relationships with area stakeholders to promote a respected presence in the community.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Museum Studies, Archeology, History or closely related field and six years progressively responsible museum or historical center operations experience to include at least three years of supervisory experience. |
|
Preferences |
|
Master's degree in specified degree areas.
Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service and problem solving skills.
