General Functions |
|
Responsible for a variety of duties related to the control of aquatic and terrestrial weeds along water conveyance and retention areas, canals and waterways.
Under the general supervision of a Foreman or Supervisor, employees in this position mix, handle and spray potentially toxic chemicals from trucks, airboats and other equipment to control weed growth in and along all water conveyance systems, retention area, ponds, lakes and right-of-way. Responsible for mixing chemicals to label specifications, following established safety regulations.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Performs routine maintenance on application equipment, to include oil and filter changes, lubrications, seal replacements, etc.
- In addition, employees in this position may be responsible for performing other duties as required based on area of responsibility.
- Taking water samples as needed and returning samples to the lab for testing and conducting field tests utilizing hydro lab equipment.
- Responding to fish kill, algae bloom, turbidity, dredge and fill, and related complaints, and monitoring shoreline areas utilizing checklist provided by division.
- Monitoring shoreline permit compliance, and communicating concerns and discrepancies to the appropriate staff for further action.
- Transport and operate application equipment, tractors, boom sprayers, and other mechanical equipment necessary for athletic turf.
- Manage athletic turf health at park properties.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Two years of experience in outdoor maintenance and use of commercial landscape, tractors, or other medium to light duty equipment. Must have physical ability to with stand inclement weather conditions while working outside and sufficient strength to carry heavy equipment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Restricted Use of Pesticide license (aquatic, right-of-way or ornamental/turf) or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
Must possess and maintain an applicable Florida driver license or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
