PUBLIC WORKS OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

General Functions
  

Provides for the day-to-day administration of duties performed in the Operations maintenance section assigned within the Public Works department. Oversees and provides for staff training, certification, staff evaluation and equipment needs. This position also monitors staff efficiency and productivity while recommending and implementing changes as needed.

Work is performed with independence under the direction of the Division Manager and is reviewed on a regular basis through observation and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Interprets and administers personnel policies, union contracts and handles daily personnel issues of operations staff including discipline and recognition/encouragement.
  • Evaluates staffing levels, conducts interviews and recommends the hiring of staff for operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinates closely with senior leadership on installation of transportation infrastructure and meets with contractors to ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Evaluates operations procedures for staff productivity and monitors outcomes.
  • Evaluates operational procedures for effectiveness, efficiency and compliance with Federal, State and County standards and implements changes as needed.
  • Monitors operations personnel progression through testing and evaluations.
  • Determines, monitors and provides for the training and certification needs of operations staff.
  • Establishes and maintains programs to evaluate equipment repair and/or replacement, including the preparation of equipment specifications.
  • Attends Division and Community meetings as well as meetings with the Mayor and Commissioners.
  • Responds to media inquiries as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years of experience in infrastructure operations or project management to include two (2) years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

 
Preferences
  

A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning or a closely related field.

Experience in the management or installation of traffic control devices.
