ASSISTANT TO DIRECTOR, CEDS

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Assists the Department Director and/or Deputy Director by leading special projects, supervising cross-departmental activities, developing operational reports and financial analysis, and supports the administration of the Department by developing policies and procedures.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Department Director. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Coordinates implementation of the Regulatory Streamlining Task Force recommendations.
  • Works with interdepartmental staff and external stakeholders to develop the County's Sustainability Plan.
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activities related to updates of the County code and administrative regulations.
  • Coordinates intradepartmental data collection and analysis, research, and policy development activities related to sustainability, including the fiscal impacts of land use, transportation, urban form, infrastructure improvements, and service provision. Provides information to be used in work program and budget prioritization.
  • Coordinates periodic impact fee studies and updates.
  • Coordinates with Department Director to develop a long- and short-range strategic direction for the Department.
  • Assists Director with review of work products before distribution.
  • Coordinates and complete special projects, initiatives, and studies as assigned.
  • Provides routine support to the Director in areas such as customer relations, media relations, facilitating internal and external communication, website maintenance, and other management duties.
  • Monitors legislative changes and analyze impacts on County.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Urban Planning, Engineering, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field, and five years progressively responsible experience in the fields of planning, permitting, regulatory compliance, or program management in the aforementioned area, to include a minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
 
Preferences
   Experience with local government processes and regulations.
