General Functions |
|
This is a responsible investigative and supervisory work. Responsible for the daily operations of the Background Investigation unit of the Professional Standards Division. Conducts, coordinates and reviews background investigations.
Work is performed utilizing independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned work. The position is under the general supervision of the Division Manager and is reviewed through conferences, records, reports and results achieved.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Supervises the day-to-day Background Investigation unit operations.
- Coordinates case loads, activities, and provides feedback to Background investigative and supports staff.
- Reviews the work for quality and ensures timeliness. Evaluates results and advises Orange County Departments on potential hiring issues based on obtained information.
- Conducts high priority background investigations.
- Responsible for conducting fingerprinting prospective new hires and point of contact for results.
- Monitors and reports on County employee arrest tracking.
- Provides advanced technical assistance to staff in both intake and investigative activities.
- Ensures compliance by federal and state statutes; and standards for background investigation procedures.
- Responsible for performance reviews of direct reporting staff, discipline and leave approval.
- Attends training sessions, seminars and conferences; trains and advises others as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Social Science or closely related field and three years of experience in background investigation or human resources.
Must not have been convicted of or plead no contest to a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude. An extensive background investigation will be conducted including polygraph examination.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
Excellent report writing, editing, and computer skills are required.
