MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST |

General Functions |
|
Under general supervision, responsible for the assessment and treatment planning with offenders at Orange County’s correctional facilities who have demonstrated a need for mental health services. Performs a variety of related functions including conducting mental status evaluations of inmates, preparing reports, providing recommendations to staff, performing crisis assessment and intervention functions, etc.. Reports to the Chief Psychologist.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Conducts interviews and reviews medical charts to evaluate mental status of incarcerated offenders
- Conducts group and/or individual counseling with incarcerated offenders, who have mental health problems, at Orange County’s correctional facilities.
- Consults with other staff persons to provide recommendations relative to treatment, housing, etc..
- Provides crisis intervention counseling or assistance as necessary.
- Prepares and presents psychoeducational material to incarcerated offenders.
- Prepares case documentation, reports or correspondence.
- Provides training and consultation to staff.
- Clears inmates for release, as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work and one year of professional experience providing direct clinical services in a social or mental health setting. Experience in criminal justice is preferred.
Must be available to be on-call after hours, on weekends, and on holidays as required.

Preferences |
|
Licensed Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor, Mental Health Nurse or Psychologist with the ability to Baker Act. |
