ASSISTANT MANAGER, PARKS & RECREATION

General Functions
   Provides administrative and supervisory assistance to the Division Manager in directing the activities, planning, programs and services of the County's Parks and Recreation Division and ensures the highest level of service is provided to the County and its citizens.

The role reports to the Manager, Parks & Recreation and is reviewed on the efficiency and effectiveness of the Parks and Recreation programs.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Assists the Manager in the administrative direction for the Division, including facilities, personnel, budgeting, Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), grant coordination, marketing, maintenance, program supervision and master planning.
  • Monitors, analyzes and reports on all facets of Parks and Recreation operations, oversees and develops policy within the Division and serves as a liaison to other County departments and division heads.
  • Responds to and resolves internal and external customer concerns/complaints. Directs, tracks and monitors the Division's budget and grants.
  • Performs studies to enhance optimum utilization of park facilities, personnel and equipment. Directs and participates in studies, surveys and research for environmental matters.
  • Prepares plans, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for projects, programs, and equipment.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and directs the work of park and recreation staff involved in the day-to-day operations, administration, construction, and maintenance of a park or recreation area.
  • Works closely with Manager and senior staff in the recruitment, selection and training of personnel. Supervises, evaluates and ensures employees are performing as per the performance standards. Serves as the Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration, Business Administration or a closely related field and five years of administrative or supervisory experience in the development and management of parks and recreation.
