General Functions |
|
This position is responsible for creating, scheduling, and delivering life safety education programs to the citizens and visitors of Orange County for the purpose of enhancing public awareness and reducing injury, death, and property damage from fires, accidents, falls, drowning, motor vehicle accidents, etc.
Work is performed under supervision of the Fire Marshal and is evaluated on effectiveness of the programs.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Develops and conducts educational and informative fire prevention, injury reduction and life safety programs. Provides educational programs for children at the Children’s Safety Village.
- Provides assistance to field personnel in implementing community outreach programs.
- Develops or assists in development of marketing and communications plans. Supports organizational initiatives and events.
- Coordinates media and community relations for the department and administers community risk reduction services.
- Maintains working relationships with outside organizations/agencies for the purpose of providing specialized education/awareness programs, i.e., wildfire education, child safety seat checks, etc.
- Prepares a variety of reports and records to determine community needs and program effectiveness.
- Schedules and delivers life safety education programs for citizens, to include elementary, intermediate and secondary school levels, special needs and other community groups.
- Serves on a variety of local, state and national committees and boards as assigned; builds community coalitions to strengthen programs.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Associates’ Degree from an accredited institution in Education, Child Development, Fire Science or closely related field and two years experience in public education, teaching or vocational experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and have Internet skills to perform searches.
Effective communication skills both oral and written.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
Individuals hired in this position must have Fire & Safety Educator I & II certification within 12 months from date of hire.
