General Functions |

This position functions as a Dispatcher for emergency and non-emergency responses for the Orange County Fire Rescue Department. General supervision is received from the Dispatcher Supervisor or Assistant Shift Supervisor, who reviews work and evaluates performance based on efficiency, effectiveness and adherence to established procedures. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Answers multi-line telephone system.
- Processes emergency and non-emergency calls using computers, telephones, radios, maps and printed resource materials to process emergency information accurately and quickly.
- Transmits and receives transmissions on a complex 800 MHz trunked radio system.
- Makes decisions as to categorization of emergencies received from 9-1-1 calls.
- Strategic selection of emergency fire and/or rescue apparatus to accomplish the goals of saving lives and property.
- First Responder to medical emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High School Graduate or equivalent, and completion of Orange County's Dispatcher Trainee Program. Must obtain the Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) certification within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification while employed. Employees are required to complete PST refresher training every two (2) years. Must possess and maintain the Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatcher (EFD) certifications and maintain certifications while employed. Employees are required to complete EMD and EFD refresher training every two (2) years. Must successfully complete the alarms in progress (AIP) assessment within one (1) year of employment as a Dispatcher. |
