General Functions |
|
Directs the operations of the department by determining goals and objectives within the framework of County policy and budgetary constraints. Oversees administration of emergency and non-emergency services provided by divisions. |
|
Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Manage department operations for compliance with County policy through administration of Personnel policies, labor contracts, standard operating procedures, rules and regulations.
- Conduct staff meetings to plan and evaluate shore, and long-range goals for the department.
- Participate in community meetings to determine risk assessment and contingency plans for hazardous materials as mandated by Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act and to represent the department by answering questions regarding plans, goals and objectives.
- Participate in meetings with neighboring emergency agencies to negotiate mutual aid, joint responses and contracting fire services.
- Responsible for various personnel matters including hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals and related activities.
- Prepare and oversee preparation of annual operating budget for the Fire and Rescue Department.
- Direct emergency operations for fire, hazardous material, aircraft, and emergency medical or natural disasters through the supervision of senior managers within the department.
- Provides scene management for fire, hazardous material, aircraft, and emergency medical or natural disasters through the supervision of senior managers within the department.
- Meet with County Administrator to report department work progress and to receive recommendation and direction for future department objectives.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Fire Safety Administration, Public Administration preferred and seven years of experience, to include five years of experience as a Chief.
Must possess a valid Florida certification as a Fire Officer.
