General Functions |
|
Provides supervision, oversight, and assumes direct responsibility for the medical performance of firefighters, EMT and paramedics operating within the Orange County EMS System. In addition, provides management oversight and staff supervision for the Orange County Office of the Medical Director. Duties, when necessary, will involve supervising, planning, training, consulting, counseling, direct patient care, and the performance of quality assurance. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Provides direct and indirect supervision of firefighters, EMT and paramedics during care of patients on the scene of medical emergencies, fires, natural disasters, and incidents involving hazardous materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
- Leads and oversees the Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) Program for the Orange County EMS System and its representative agencies.
- Develops, authorizes and updates medically appropriate protocols and procedures for use by the Orange County EMS System.
- Evaluates and monitors the medical performance of the Orange County EMS System, its representative agencies, and individual care providers by way of data collection and analysis.
- Oversees and provides input pertaining to continuing education credits for Orange County EMS System providers.
- Plans for, responds to, and provides input pertaining to Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8) during disasters.
- Participates in professional and regulatory organizations to acquire pertinent knowledge and insight on issues and advances in the field of emergency care.
- Leads and oversees the Office of the Medical Director staff on day-to-day duties as they relate to support of the Orange County EMS System.
- Perform other duties of a comparable level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Graduation from a school of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
Current medical license issued by the Florida Department of Health.
American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) certification or qualification.
Current practice in emergency medicine. Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Services Physician Fellowship
Eligible for Florida firefighter certification OR Florida Paramedic certification within six months of employment.

Preferences |
|
Training or experience in emergency management, disaster health planning, and terrorism response planning.
Five years of experience as an EMS Medical Director for an advanced life support agency such as a fire department, EMS service or private ambulance service.
Member in one or more of the following:
American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP
National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP)
Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)
Florida College of Emergency Physicians (FCEP)
Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors
