General Functions |
|
Performs specialized electrical and electronic work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of installed electronic equipment on County owned and operated vehicles and equipment. An Automotive Electronic Technician installs, repairs tests and troubleshoots electronic systems connected to the operating system of motor vehicles. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment.
- Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, instruction manuals, technical bulletins, government regulations, company policies and parts catalogues.
- Uses microfiche and computerized service information systems to locate necessary information as well as fax-back and technical telephone support systems.
- Plans the sequence of operations to properly install and test main control units and other electronic accessory components.
- Tests and calibrate devices and components and performs final installation checks.
- Advises customers on installation and/or service and repair requirements as well as explaining costs.
- Installs and maintains electronic equipment and systems.
- Uses a variety of tools, electronic test and calibration equipment; applies accepted maintenance and repair procedures to maintain or return equipment to proper operation condition.
- Modifies or replaces components as necessary.
- Consults with manufacturers on special maintenance and repair problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High School graduate or equivalent, Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certified or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in Automotive Electronics, and three years experience in electronic equipment maintenance and operations.
Must provide adequate tools to perform mechanic's duties as required. |
