General Functions |
|
Supervises the activities of several crews performing traffic signal maintenance and construction.
Distinguishing Characteristics of Work:
This is responsible supervisory work involving the maintenance, repair and construction of traffic signals.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Signal Shop Supervisor who evaluates performance based on achievement of desired results.
Works closely with the Signal Shop Supervisor to establish work schedules and follow-up completed work.
Exercises considerable discretion and technical judgment to determine the best methods and procedures to accomplish the work objectives.
Duties include directing the activities of several Traffic signal Technicians and Trades Helpers.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Assists in the scheduling of work crews.
- Works in the field to direct the activities or work crews installing or repairing traffic signals and participates in the work as necessary.
- Trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures of traffic installation and repair.
- Read plans and blueprints and translates information into oral or written instructions for subordinates.
- Ensures proper safety precautions are taken by crews working with electrical equipment, traffic control and hazardous materials.
- Maintains records of attendance and time worked.
- Must be available to respond to emergency calls relative to traffic signal malfunctions and perform work outside of normal work hours.
- Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High school graduate or equivalent and four years experience as a traffic signal technician or equivalent. Prefer some vocational or technical course work in electronics or a field related to traffic signal operation and repair.
Must obtain certification from the International Municipal Signal Association as a Traffic Signal Technician, Level II or Traffic Signal Electrician, Level II before the end of the probationary period.
Required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver’s License for the type of equipment operated.
