SENIOR HVAC MECHANIC

General Functions
   Performs skilled mechanical work in the inspection, operation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating equipment.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
    Supervises and directs the work of assigned employees. Coordinates with other craftsman as required.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of cooling and heating equipment. Inspects and adjusts refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating equipment and controls to ensure efficient operations. Maintains and repairs heating systems. Maintains and repairs refrigeration units including walk-in freezers and air-conditioning equipment ranging in size from domestic window units to large commercial chilled water systems. Diagnoses electrical, mechanical and controls for reciprocating and centrifugal systems up to 500 ton. Repairs or replaces pneumatic electric/electronic controllers.
  • Work may include repair, replacement or adjustment of worn or broken parts on condensers, compressors, air handlers, contacts, gearboxes and water and vacuum pumps. Tests equipment for refrigerant leaks, repairs or adjusts valves, piping connections, fittings and couplings. Removes and installs motors, compressors, thermostats and humidistats, adjusts expansion valves. Adjusts or changes belts, replaces gaskets, hinges, and related hardware, adds gas to systems or units, and performs inspections for preventive maintenance.
  • Computer proficient in BAS system for one of the following: SEIBE, Metasys, Honeywell or Tracer. Obtains information and adjust parameters for a computerized BAS control system.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Up to three years of additional experience may be substituted for three years of the required education.

Successful completion of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved certification program as Universal Type technician.

Completion of basic coursework in the principles of refrigeration/heating. Additional certified coursework in one of the following: Electronics, computer, compressor tear down or controls.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

May be required to perform mandatory Emergency Standby Duty.
