General Functions |
|
Performs skilled masonry work in laying brick, cement blocks and performing any necessary masonry/concrete construction or repair work. Responsible for performing a variety of functions such as determining the vertical and horizontal alignment of course, using the plumb bob, gage line, and level; constructing or repairing walls, partitions, arches points and marking guidelines on working surface to lay out work; and inspecting completed work to ensure that it will meet various FDOT specifications. Work assignments are received by written job orders or oral instructions, which may be accompanied by blueprints or schematic drawings.
Work is performed under the supervision of a foreman who reviews work for conformance to specifications and work orders. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Constructs retainer walls, curbs and gutters, and drainage related structures requiring the use of cement, blocks, and related building materials.
- Installs and repairs concrete walls and related structures.
- Pours concrete into various molds and makes the final determination as to when it dries and is ready for further work.
- Operates small engine equipment such as, but not limited to, single-axle truck/ crew cab (less than 2-tons), concrete saw, hand drill, pneumatic hammer, dry-wet vacuum, etc.
- Participate in general labor duties related to general construction work.
- May supervise assigned equipment operators or work crew on a project basis.
- Participate in emergency operations, including preparation, response and recovery due to adverse weather events, as assigned.
- May set up barricades and act as spotter or flagman.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Four (4) years of experience in the masonry/concrete trade.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License for the type of equipment operated. |

Preferences |
|
General knowledge of flatwork and curb concrete work installation.
General knowledge of various means to retrofit Roads and Drainage related structures.
Experience supervising a construction crew as a crew leader. |
