General Functions |
|
Provides general medical care and treatment to inmates of Orange County Corrections or patients of Orange County Medical Clinic within the scope of their license and under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
Medical Physician Assistant
- Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within the scope of their license and under the direction of a physician. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic test to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient’s condition.
- Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare a comprehensive patient care plan. Submits the health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by physician.
- Prescribes drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. Refers patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment. Becomes actively involved in the Quality Assurance/Risk Management/Infection Control/Utilization Management Program.
- Performs procedures such as venous access, wound management and repair, Incision and drainage of abscess, management of musculoskeletal injuries including the application of splints, punch biopsies and speculum vaginal examination.
- Participates with other members of the multi-disciplinary treatment team in assessment and developing individualized treatment plan specific for the inmate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Psychiatric Physician Assistant
- Conducts psychiatric assessments to include mental status examinations.
- Monitors medication therapies and prescribes medication changes as necessary in accordance with established protocols.
- Conducts assessments to detect the presence of movement disorders and other side effects of medication therapy and prescribes treatment as indicated in accordance with established protocols.
- Initiates laboratory monitoring associated with psychiatric treatments and interprets and evaluates results.
- Conducts physical examinations in response to inmate complaints, establishes preliminary diagnosis and prescribes treatment or refers to the physician in accordance with established protocols.
- Conducts individual and group psychotherapy as indicated.
- Participates with other members of the multi-disciplinary treatment team in assessment and developing individualized treatment plan specific for the inmate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Medical Physician Assistant
Must possess and maintain State of Florida licensure as a Physician Assistant.
Psychiatric Physician Assistant
Must possess and maintain State of Florida licensure as a Physician Assistant.
Must possess the NCCPA Psychiatry certificate of qualification. |

Preferences |
|
Bilingual English/Spanish. Previous Corrections Experience. Experience with various medical equipment. Good Computer skills.
