General Functions |
|
Under supervision of the Inmate Affairs Corporal, manages the operation of the designated law library in accordance with the prescribed law library policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines. Protects the integrity of law library legal materials. Incumbents receive detailed instructions when beginning the assignment, but are expected to work with minimal supervision. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Maintains the legal materials and/or files in an orderly fashion; reports any missing law library items to the Inmate Affairs Corporal or designee.
- Retrieves legal research as requested by inmates using on-line research reference software (e.g., Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis) and other law library reference materials.
- Provides requesting inmates a reasonable amount of photocopies in accordance with policy and procedure.
- Keeps statistical data on number of requests received and processed.
- Provides Notary Public services in accordance with Florida State Statute and established policy and procedure.
- Maintains an updated list of inmates who receive legal material in accordance with established policy and procedure.
- Receives and logs all incoming inmate written requests for legal reference materials and notary services.
- Sorts, organizes and prioritizes requests. Provide responses to all request in a timely manner.
- Communicates with the inmate if further information is required in order to process their request for legal materials.
- Responds to all inmate requests related to any law library and notary services.
- Maintains comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations, attends workshops and/or training as directed.
- Performs related work as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years experience in an administrative support function with demonstrated skills in the use of modern office systems technologies and computer software. Experience should also include Internet search and electronic database retrieval systems interface. Must acquire (and maintain) Florida Notary certification within 30 days of hire or promotion. Corrections will assist the employee in attaining their Notary certification. Possess and maintain a valid Florida drivers license. |

Preferences |
|
Prefer experience in a legal or similar judicial process environment; familiarity with legal and business literature, reference sources and terminology; demonstrated skills in the use of modern office systems technologies and computer software, e.g., Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis preferred. |
