CORRECTIONS SHIFT SUPERVISOR

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   This position is responsible for directing and overseeing the functions and duties of a shift that is tasked with the intake, screening and release of inmates and processing of documents. Responsible for ensuring that all duties are completed in accordance with policies and procedures.

Work is performed with limited supervision under the general direction of the Administrative Supervisor. Performance is evaluated through quality assurance reviews, and achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Ensures the timely and accurate completion and processing of documents.
  • Assists personnel with interpretation of all court orders regarding sentencing, bonds, releases and other instructions from the court.
  • Directs and oversees duties performed by staff including delegating work and ensuring timely completion of tasks. Ensures all duties assigned are completed in a timely manner and with accuracy.
  • Reviews and approves releases. Assures that accurate records are maintained.
  • Completes shift schedules and makes adjustments when necessary for the purpose of meeting staffing requirements due to court related matters, heavy arrest days, training, and call-ins.
  • Completes and submits payroll information for processing.
  • Conducts counseling sessions, completes paperwork for disciplinary actions and completes evaluations on staff.
  • Prepares various reports to include correspondence to the judges/courts.
  • Serves as primary point of contact with the courts for the purpose of first appearance court and identifying release options for the inmate population.
  • Assists in policy development, interprets policy for subordinate staff and trains staff on equipment and polices and procedures that govern unit operations.
  • Communicates effectively with staff and the public about departmental and inmate processing procedures.
  • Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and three (3) years of experience in criminal justice, public administration social service or a closely related field. Professional work experience in criminal justice, public administration, social services, or a closely related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year for year basis.

Must possess or be able to obtain FCIC/NCIC certification within three months of hire.
 
Preferences
   Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Service or a closely related field. One or more years of corrections supervisory experience.
