General Functions |
|
Plans, organizes and directs activities of Corporals and Correctional Officers. Supervises work of Correctional Corporals and Correctional Officers. Acts as liaison with upper levels of management. Prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations and progressive discipline for shift personnel. Infrequently performs typical Correctional Officer duties. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Enforces Orange County rules and regulations and federal, state and local law regarding performance of duties and operational compliance by all subordinate personnel.
- Prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations and progressive discipline for shift personnel.
- Supervises work of Correctional Corporals and Correctional Officers, including preparation of duty rosters and payroll transmittals.
- Maintains responsibility for administrative duties pertaining to his/her shift, such as scheduling, leave grants, evaluation processes and maintaining adequate supplies and paper forms.
- Conducts facility inspections to ensure secure confinement of inmates.
- Responds to critical incidents and takes command of the situation until properly relieved by senior authority.
- Participates and/or chairs inmate disciplinary boards.
- Overall responsible for the quality and accuracy of reports.
- Investigates all facility incidents (serious and minor) unless delegated to the Correctional Corporals.
- Initiates and/or reviews disciplinary actions which may be exercised against personnel and inmates.
- Trains Correctional Corporals and assists in the training of Correctional Officers as required. Assist in the training of Correctional Corporal in the investigation of facility incidents.
- Monitors the performance of Correctional Corporals in coordinating and reviewing as well as preparing report transmissions.
- May serve as shift commander for multiple facilities.
- Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High school graduate or equivalent and two years experience as an Orange County Correctional Corporal.
Must possess Florida Correctional Officer certification. Must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Must be able to complete all annual training required to maintain certification or as required by the Orange County Corrections Department. Performance evaluations must be on target or above during the previous calendar year (date will be specified in position posting). Must not have any disciplinary action exceeding a written reprimand during the previous calendar year (date will be specified in position posting).
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida State Drivers License.
