General Functions |
|
Responsible for initiating and providing leadership guidance, direction and overall management to operate the Countys Corrections System on a daily basis, consistent with departmental policies and good management practices ensuring discipline, safety, and security while conforming to state and federal regulations. Assists with long and short term planning for facilities and coordinating staff activities. Assists in developing and monitoring the annual budget.
Work is performed with independence and initiative under the general supervision of the Chief of Corrections. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Monitors and maintains general supervision over all County Correctional Facilities and ensures all laws, polices, procedures, rules, and regulations are interpreted and adhered to.
- Monitors daily jail operations to ensure a safe and secure environment for inmates and staff, while protecting the community.
- Directs and oversees the day-to-day Inmate Operations. Has over-all responsibility of a correctional detention facility where inmates are confined, housed or maintained.
- Supervises Correctional Command Officers who supervise Correctional Officers. In the performance of their duties. Performs duties such as instructing, assigning, and reviewing the work of Correctional Command Officers and others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, resolving employee issues, selecting new employees, and recommending salary increases, transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions and discharges.
- Reviews American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation standards to ensure compliance through continuous evaluation and planning.
- Plans and coordinates long and short-range staffing, training, capital improvement needs and large-scale initiatives. Recommends and monitors means of implementation. Assists in formulating goals and objectives for long and short-range general planning for the department.
- Assists in developing, approving, and monitoring the annual departmental budget.
- Oversees the collection and maintenance of statistical data related to inmate management, staff management, and over-all accountability.
- Responds to questions and complaints that deal with the Corrections Department. Provides information to the County Mayor, elected officials, County Administrator, other County Departments and Divisions. Maintains and fosters good public and media relations.
- Coordinates and monitors all assignments related to compliance issues and departmental internal investigations.
- Maintains constant update of new and changing laws.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a closely related field eight years of progressive responsible correctional supervisory and administrative experience with at least five years experience at a management level.
Must possess or obtain within one year State of Florida Certification as a Correctional Officer

Preferences |
|
Masters degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a closely related field.
Experience managing a large Correctional facility.
Sound knowledge, skills and abilities in Correctional facility operations.
