General Functions |
|
Administers the County's self-insurance services program to protect against financial consequences of accidental losses, to preserve assets and to establish an exposure-free work environment through an effective loss protection program. Reports to the Director of Fiscal and Administrative Services. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Manages division staff, providing guidance and direction, and assigning and realigning duties and assignments as needed to meet ongoing County and Division needs.
- Oversees the procurement of property & casualty insurance coverage.
- Manages Third Party Administrator (TPA), Occupational Medicine, consultants, actuary and broker contracts.
- Reviews reports from claims adjusters and attorneys for settlement request prior to submission to the Risk Management Committee.
- Attends claims hearings, depositions and mediation conferences to settle claims as authorized by the Risk Management Committee.
- Manages claims handling functions and claims approval process through the Risk Management Committee.
- Develops and monitors self-insurance program budget.
- Determines insurance requirement for contracts, leases and agreements to ensure adequate protection for the County.
- Oversees County Safety and Loss Prevention Program.
- Keeps abreast of legislative developments affecting risk management operations.
- Responsible for various personnel matters to include staff hiring, training and development, performance appraisals, discipline and related activities.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Public or Business Administration or a related degree and six years of risk management experience, to include two years in occupational safety and loss control and one year management experience. |

Preferences |
|
Extensive experience as a Risk Manager overseeing safety/wellness, property and casualty insurance, contract review, environmental assessments and claims handling. Associate Risk Manager (ARM) preferred. |
