General Functions |
|
This is technical work providing the installation, support and maintenance of the enterprise voice and data networks, trunked radio, and network cabling infrastructure for all Orange County Departments and Elected Officials.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Enterprise IT Supervisor. Performance is evaluated on accuracy, efficiency and achievement of desired results.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Evaluates customer requests for new and changes to current network services. Analyzes requirements and pertinent technical information and develops and implements appropriate and effective solutions.
- Attends construction meetings and provides recommendations for site plans. Conducts site visits with staff and vendors to determine cabling paths, assess needs for radio amplifier systems, communication closets and voice and data locations.
- Responsible for completing all requests involving moves and service and equipment changes. Works with staff, vendors and telephone companies to complete all voice, radio, and data cross connects.
- Prioritizes, troubleshoots and diagnoses radio, voice, and data cabling infrastructure issues. Responds to cable cuts to assure emergency restoration.
- Researches latest standards and technology in infrastructure components. Recommends materials for use on all projects, reviews project cabling quotes and materials lists for accuracy.
- Documents County cabling infrastructure, manholes, handholds, vaults and splices using Geographic Information System (GIS) data points.
- Maintains and operates radio service monitors, radio system operating software, test equipment, power meters, and electronic test equipment.
- Installs and troubleshoots portable and mobile radios, tower equipment, multiplexers, microwave equipment, antennas. Performs cross-connects to telephone company circuits and internal distribution fields. Tests all connections.
- Installs or assists with the installation and configuration of network switches and routers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Telecommunications or other closely related field and two years of experience in the configuration, installation and repair of voice and data network cabling infrastructures or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience.
Knowledge of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and Electronic Industry Alliance (EIA) Standards.
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
