General Functions |
|
This is professional work analyzing commercial and/or multi-family building plans and specifications for compliance with Orange County Architectural Standards and Guidelines for Commercial Building and Projects ordinances, lighting ordinance and building codes.
Work is performed with considerable independence with a supervisor providing technical assistance on complex problems. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results and application of established ordinances, codes and regulations. This position reports to the Chief Plans Examiner/Architect.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Examines blueprints, renderings, complex construction drawings and specifications of proposed buildings prior to the issuance of a building permit.
- Discusses technical requirements of plans with architects, engineers, contractors, builders or owners. Approves, suggests modifications, and calls for corrections to plans as necessary.
- Discusses technical building or design problems with building contractors and the public.
- Explains and interprets the building regulations and methods of modifying plans submitted to comply with the building regulations and gives technical advice to building inspectors.
- Computes square footage of buildings, estimated cost, and calculates building permit fees.
- May be required to make complex field inspections of new construction while in progress and determines if construction complies with the building code and the approved plans.
- Assists inspectors, performs related work, including plan review, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Architecture or closely related field, and one year of experience in design or construction.
Must possess qualifications to obtain one or more state certifications as Standard or Provisional Building Plans Examiner pursuant to Florida Statutes, Chapter 468, Part XIII.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public while discussing, explaining, and interpreting standards and codes.
