General Functions |
|
The role is responsible for working with the Mayor and County Administration to develop a clear and compelling vision for community resilience and sustainability and effectively coordinate efforts to achieve measurable progress towards that vision. The role will be responsible for identifying environmental threats and risks, reduce exposure through emergency management and preparedness, mitigation programs and work on long term sustainable practices to promote economic, social and environmental development of the community.
Duties and responsibilities include researching and developing the sustainability and resilience plans, coordinating with internal departments, an advisory board, and public- private agencies to execute plans through partnerships, collaboration, and outreach.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the County Administrator and is reviewed based on accuracy, timeliness and effectiveness of results achieved. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Coordinates, develops, and manages the integration and communication of sustainability policies, resilience strategy and associated initiatives and practices for the County.
- Collaborates with various departments within the organization to manage the resilience strategy development and alignment of sustainability framework with county projects, policies and initiatives.
- Leads and implements a full range of programs to reduce the environmental impacts of county operations through tactics involving energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate, transportation, green building, water quality, air quality, biodiversity, waste, green purchasing, natural land preservation, community engagement and other related activities.
- Establishes resilience planning support and tools to the county's team to assist with tasks such as vulnerability assessment, identifying priority need areas and actionable initiatives, metrics of success and monitoring, best practices, community mobilization.
- Analyzes state and federal polices and legislation relating directly and indirectly to climate change and sustainability and make recommendations on action when appropriate.
- Responsible for benchmarking existing efforts and metrics and pursuing creative financial solutions including tax credits, rebate programs, revolving loan funds as well as grant opportunities to fund projects and programs.
- Researches reports and analyzes data on global warming, climate change, carbon emissions and alternative fuel sources; generates feasibility and cost analysis reports used to formulate alternative initiatives to attain the County's sustainability goals.
- Achieves results in building and sustaining a livable and inclusive community; with emphasis on educational excellence, healthy neighborhoods and people, environmental quality, natural resource protection, strategic economic development, growing a green economy, quality jobs, community safety, and arts and culture.
- Provides public outreach and education on matters related to climate change and sustainability.
- Serves as the County's resilience/sustainability representative by participating in technical training and learning opportunities related to sustainability and resiliency, including the annual international CRO Summit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor degree from an accredited university in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering, urban planning, architecture, business administration, public administration, and/or other related field and five years of senior level sustainability and resiliency related experience. |

Preferences |
|
Masters degree in a related field preferred.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) GA certification or comparable highly desirable.
