General Functions |
|
This is a professional position serving as a senior technical team member and supervisor of Geographic Information Systems staff assigned to data, analysis, mapping, and applications development projects. This position is responsible for defining the objectives and design of GIS data/analysis/applications based on enterprise and customer specified requirements.
Work is performed with independence and initiative under the general direction of the department's Administration. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
- Supervises Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technical and support staff and performs related administrative work as required.
- Oversees maintenance, analysis and quality assurance processes.
- Analyzes, troubleshoots, improves, and provides support for existing GIS systems, applications, databases, and processes.
- Mentors and assists mapping and analysis staff as needed.
- Prepares detailed specifications and oversees testing and implementation of new GIS data/ applications/processes.
- Interacts regularly with other County agencies, other governments, and the private sector.
- Represents business unit on the Orange County GIS Technical Committee.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Five years of progressive experience demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the use and application of GIS data and technologies. At least one year must include supervisory experience; two years of project management experience may substitute for direct supervisory experience.

Preferences |
|
Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP)
GIS experience in a large GIS data production and/or services organization.
Technical experience with spatial data management, spatial analysis technologies, process design and modeling, server and/or web GIS technologies.
Experience applying GIS to enhance government business processes.
