General Functions |
|
This is a highly responsible professional position that oversees and coordinates Geographic Information Systems (GIS) activities across all of Orange County's GIS programs. This position also manages the activities of Orange County's centralized GIS maintenance, data management, analysis and mapping operation. The position reports on countywide GIS activities and provides recommendations on GIS policy and operations to the GIS Steering Committee. The position represents Orange County's GIS interests in regional, state and national forums.
Work is performed with independence and initiative under the general supervision of the Manager, Fiscal and Operational Support. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Manages the centralized County GIS operation.
- Represents Departmental and Countywide GIS programs on the GIS Steering Committee.
- Performs related supervisory and administrative work as required.
- Reports on Countywide GIS activities and provides recommendations on GIS policy to the GIS Steering Committee.
- Coordinates Enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) activities across multiple Departments in cooperation with the Information Systems and Services Division.
- Interacts with federal, state and local governments and the private sector.
- Chair of the County GIS Technical Committee.
Performs other related duties as assigned. |

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and eight (8) years of experience in GIS operations management, enterprise GIS planning and development, and/or large scale GIS project management. At least four (4) of those years should be at the supervisory level or higher. |

Preferences |
|
GIS experience in a large GIS data production and/or GIS services organization. Experience planning, designing and coordinating the application in of GIS technologies together with other enterprise and analytical technologies to improve government operations.
Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP). |
