JANITOR

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Performs moderately heavy, routine manual work in the cleaning and care of County buildings and premises and directs lower-level employees performing similar work. Work is performed under limited supervision in accomplishing routine cleaning tasks. Work is reviewed by inspection while in progress or upon completion.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Assigns and directs the work or lower-level janitors. Trains staff on the proper use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors; waxes and polishes floors; vacuums and cleans carpets and performs other related janitorial duties.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture.
  • Cleans and sterilizes restroom facilities and replaces supplies.
  • Polishes steel, chrome, and brass building hardware.
  • Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning or otherwise caring for buildings and equipment.
  • Raises and lowers flag in accordance with established rules.
  • May perform ground duties such as sweeping public walks and parking areas.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   One year of direct janitorial experience in a government or commercial facility. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Selected applicant may be subject to a background screening and fingerprinting for which he/she must bear the cost and must obtain favorable screening results in order to obtain employment.

Selected applicant must be able to demonstrate basic computer knowledge in order to retrieve and respond to electronic mail (emails).
