General Functions |
|
This position supervises and trains field inspectors responsible for the investigation of code violations within all unincorporated Orange County, issuance of violation notices, preparation and presentation of cases to the Code Enforcement Board to enforce compliance with the County's adopted codes, applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Work is characterized by considerable independence and responsibility to exercise initiative, and carry all assignments through to completion. Acts as Chief Inspector in the absence of the incumbent.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Supervises assigned Code Enforcement Inspectors responsible for inspections of unsafe building, waste tire enforcement, junk yard zonings, signs and lot clearing.
Ensures compliance with Division Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), Administrative Regulation, Personnel Policies, etc.
Interacts with entities such as the Orange County Sheriff's Office, International Drive Master Transit and Improvement District, Chambers of Commerce, to coordinate enforcement efforts with the changing needs in the area.
Attends and makes special presentations to citizen groups while communicating effectively and clearly.
Represents the County before the Special Magistrate, Code Enforcement Board, and other advisory boards as needed.
Negotiates with citizens and business owners to achieve compliance to County Code or provide alternative administrative action (i.e., Variance, Special Exception, Rezoning, etc.). Responds to citizen questions concerning zoning and other County related issues.
Conducts inspections for compliance with adopted codes, ordinances and state statutes.
Reads and interprets construction plans and blueprints.
Informs public of building code changes and explains code to contractors, architects, engineers and homeowners.
Maintains accurate records of inspection activities and violations.
Must be able to perform job-related tasks, which would include but not necessarily be limited to: climbing, bending, squatting, stooping and any physical ability associated with the construction industry.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High school or equivalent and seven years of experience in code enforcement, zoning, a field or investigative capacity, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Must possess and maintain a Florida Association of Code Enforcement's (F.A.C.E) Level 1 certification within one year of employment and F.A.C.E. II certification within two years of employment, or equivalent certifications such as International Code Congress (ICC).
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and provide own transportation if necessary. |
