General Functions |
|
This position ensures the health, safety and welfare of Orange County communities through compliance with applicable zoning codes and regulations. The position is responsible for the investigation of potential code violations within unincorporated Orange County, issuance of violation notices, preparation and presentation of cases to the Code Enforcement Board and/or Special Magistrate, and follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with code requirements.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of designated supervisor or manager. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports and results achieved. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on the area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Conducts initial and follow-up inspections utilizing mobile data application of complaints received by telephone or in writing, or through personal observation and/or personal interviews.
- Patrols the County in a marked vehicle to look for violations of County Ordinances.
- Conducts research including property ownership through legal descriptions, non-conforming use files, Planning and Zoning, Development Review Committee, Board of County Commissioners conditions of approval, and building permit records to verify site location and code compliance.
- Prepares, inputs, and maintains case files for presentation including correspondence, photographs and chronology of events and presents staff recommendations to Code Enforcement Board.
- Interacts with entities such as the Orange County Sheriff's Office, International Drive Master Transit and Improvement District, and Chambers of Commerce to coordinate enforcement efforts with the changing needs in the area. Attends and makes special presentations to citizen groups.
- Negotiates with citizens and business owners to achieve compliance with the County Code or provide alternative administrative action.
- Responds to citizen questions concerning zoning and other County related issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
High School graduate or equivalent and three years of experience in code compliance/enforcement, zoning, a field investigative capacity, or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
Must possess and maintain a Florida driver’s license. Must possess and maintain the Florida Association of Code Enforcement’s (F.A.C.E.) Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Certification within one year of employment.

Adept at discussing, explaining, and interpreting standards and codes. Experience making presentations to groups, presenting information in formal settings. Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite. |
