General Functions |
|
The Communications Section Manager will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive and effective communication and media/public relation programs. This role will focus on managing the operations of the communications team in executing the communications strategies.
Work is performed with considerable initiative and independent judgment under the general direction of the Communications Manager. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports and effectiveness of the desired results.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Assists in developing long and short-term strategic communications plan for the Orange County. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and implements changes required for improvement.
Assists in planning, implementing and directing public relations strategies, policies and procedures.
Develops and implements ongoing and special event projects.
Ensures organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and external stakeholders.
Plans, edits and reviews content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, monthly magazine or regular email bulletin.
Acts as a liaison between agency personnel and the press. Write press releases and prepare information for the media.
Directs all Communications Division staff and assists in managing day to day operations.
Trains staff on effective public relations and media strategies. Advises staff on how to effectively build rapport with communities and the media.
Direct social media team members to engage audiences across traditional and new media
Coordinate with Mayor's Office to ensure consistency in messages across communication platforms and throughout agency materials.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, Business or closely related field, six years of progressive management experience in communications, community relations, public affairs, community initiative or strategic issue management.
