PARENT/CHILD RESOURCE COORDINATOR

General Functions
   Performs general and special education work coordinating educational activities of the handicapped program for the children and of the remedial needs for parents within the extended day, full-year Head Start Program.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This is a responsible professional work teaching fundamental academic subjects in the field of special education for children and remedial needs for parents and other family members, especially relating to employability skills and self-sufficiency.

An employee in a position assigned to this classification is responsible for planning prescriptive, educational programs in the fundamentals of special education for children who are educable or trainable and those with specific learning disabilities and meeting the remedial needs of parents, especially involving G.E.D., English as a second language, and literacy.

Duties include individual and group teaching, utilizing the professional programs and resources available in the community.

Work is performed with considerable judgment and discretion and is reviewed by an assigned supervisor through conferences, oral and written reports and from achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Assists in providing training to staff in the handicapped services program of Head Start.
  • Provides necessary resource information to teachers on specific learning problems.
  • Utilizes the resource information center to provide individual instruction to children in specific, selected situations.
  • Assists in maintaining detailed records of children’s progress, behavior, or any special problems that may arise. Prepares and submits required reports.
  • Assists in various capacities to accomplish goals of the handicapped services program.
  • hes adult education classes as requested by social services component under the direction of the Head Start Program Manager and Curriculum Coordinator. Such classes may be basic remedial reading, English language skills, G.E.D.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field and two years of experience in special education or a closely related field.
