Provides on-site supervision and direction to the extended day, full-year Head start Program, involving the children’s curriculum and the adult training and education classes.
Distinguishing Characteristics of Work
This is a responsible professional level work monitoring and evaluating the classroom activities of the Head Start program with the children and the adult classes provided as a result of the family needs assessment directed towards self-sufficiency.
An employee in a position assigned to this classification assists the head of the education component in supervising and controlling the educational activities of the Head Start center involving children and adults. Emphasis is on the control function of management to insure compliance with educational goals and the self-sufficiency.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Department Manager who reviews work through regular conferences and reports.

| Representative Duties /Assignments |

- Observes and evaluates classroom activities and other center conditions, giving scheduled reports to the Department Manager.
- Provides on-site instruction for teaching staff in a wide variety of educational areas such as methodology, resource use, developmental concepts, etc.
- Gives guidance and direction to the Parent/Child Resource Coordinator in the development of adult education classes, especially in regards to G.E.D. classes, English as a second language, and literacy.
- Works as a team-member with the social services component, giving cooperation and input regarding employability skills and self-sufficiency of Head Start families.
- Discusses evaluation with individual teaching staff members and makes recommendations on weaknesses.
- Monitors daily lesson planning of High Scope Classroom Curriculum and insure that the assessed needs of the children are being met.
- Observes children and may refer unusual needs to appropriate components of Head Start if the child has not been previously referred.
- Serves as liaison between main office staff and center staff.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations concerning teaching staff, equipment, and other records.
- Coordinates in-service training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Education Childhood Education or a related field and three years of responsible professional experience in education, to include one year of administrative or supervisory experience. |
