General Functions
   Supervisors a program unit of the Department of Children, Youth and Family Services.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This is highly responsible work providing supervision to a program unit of the Department of Children, Youth and Family Services. An employee assigned to this classification supervises the work of clerical, professional technical, and subordinate supervisor staff and oversees all program operations. The employee is responsible for the quality of services provided by the program and must be knowledgeable of standards and practices of direct care, case management and counseling services

The employee is responsible for controlling costs in the program unit and for evaluating employee performance and the quality of care and treatment provided to clients. The employee is also responsible for coordinating activities with other agencies in the child welfare, juvenile justice and mental health systems and the courts. The employee must be able to work independently. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Childrens Services Program Manager.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Develops and implements programs for assigned program units.
  • Coordinates and conducts staff training and development.
  • Supervises assigned staff and completes performance appraisals.
  • Ensures programmatic compliance with contractual and licensing requirements.
  • Provides direct counseling and case management services as needed.
  • Provides networking and coordination activities with other service providers.
  • Attends and conducts meetings and staffing to advocate for and secure needed client services.
  • Ensures that staff resources are utilized for maximum benefit to the program.
  • Oversees and provides crisis intervention services.
  • Evaluates the quality of direct care, case management and counseling services.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a closely related field and two years of experience in counseling or human services. A Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
