GRAPHIC ARTIST SUPERVISOR

General Functions
   Provides graphic design, photography, and supervision to graphic artists of the Planning Division.

This is a supervisory and graphic art and design position.

Responsible for supervising, scheduling and participating in the work of subordinates providing graphic art and design support to the Mayor’s Office, Board of County Commissioners and other County Departments.

Employee must have extensive knowledge of various printing processes, drawing, painting, design theory and all phases of photography. Requires extensive black and white darkroom experience.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Acts as official County photographer (on call) and elected officials’ portrait photographer; completes various brochure photography and documentation.
  • Acts as photo editor and assistant layout artist for County newspaper (Orange Spiel).
  • Supervises photography and its processing for display or for offset printing.
  • Complete graphic design for annual reports, various department promotions and special graphic design requests from Chairman’s Office, board of County Commissioners, etc. All must be in conjunction with Mayor’s Office requirements and overall County image.
  • Develops posters and displays for any County division
  • Consults with customers and evaluates graphic, photographic, or printing needs.
  • Consults with customers on graphic needs and recommends design or photographic solutions.
  • Evaluates printing needs, either in-house or outside vendor, and obtain quotes.
  • Completes custom logo and invitation designs for Mayor and Commission functions.
  • Develops man-hour and materials cost.
  • Establishes an annual graphics budget.
  • Works independently of direct supervision due to short notice deadlines and the creative process.
  • Performs other related work as required.
  • Completes occasional evening and weekend photography as needed.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Art, Fine Art, Graphic Design or a related field and four years of professional experience in the graphic arts field.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted for the above education and experience.
