HISTORICAL SITE SUPERVISOR

General Functions
   Provides overall supervision of Christmas Park and Fort Christmas Museum.

This is responsible supervisory and public contract work.

An employee assigned to a position allocated to this class of work is responsible for the overall administration of the park and the historical site, with regard to research, instructional and public service objectives. The employee is also responsible for the supervision of the maintenance and operation of the park site and its facilities. The use of independent judgment and initiative is required.

Work is performed independently under the administrative direction of the Parks Division Manager who reviews work for results through observations and reports.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Supervise the park ranger in the operation of the park and maintenance of its facilities, including the fort.
  • Insure that the fort is clean, exhibit cases and exhibits are clean and secure.
  • Assist visitors by explaining the ‘walking tour”, the exhibits, and answering historical questions.
  • Schedule guided tours. Escort the groups on one-hour lecture tours.
  • Train assistants on guided tour technique and historical information.
  • Obtains, develops and organizes new collection of artifacts and prepare the “Donation or Loan Agreements”, and certificates of appreciation to each donor.
  • Administers exchange of loan collections between other museums.
  • Be responsible for identifying, classifying, cataloging and preparing permanent records for all accessions.
  • Responsible for planning and display of all exhibits.
  • Responsible for a continued research program on the Seminole War.
  • Prepare talks and slides presentations and give lectures about the fort and the Seminole War, and early Florida history.
  • Design and publish the brochure, revising as necessary.
  • Keep the fort and the history of Seminole Wars in the public eye, by use of news media, letters, publications, meetings and associations.
  • Prepare budget for the Park and Fort Christmas Museum.
  • Requisition necessary supplies and equipment for proper operation and maintenance.
  • Prepare work orders for assistance in new displays and repairs of facilities.
  • Implement the administrative work load as required in the Park and fort operation.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Parks Management, History or a related field or a high school graduate or equivalent with four years of responsible parks or historical related experience.
