WILDFIRE EDUCATION SPECIALIST

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Perform professional and technical duties in the development, implementation and delivery of wild fire education programs to perspective communities. Perform as a team member with the Life Safety Education Bureau providing support and delivery of fire and life safety education initiatives and programs.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Bureau’s Supervisor who evaluates performance through reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Develops, implements and delivers wildfire education programs to citizens, to include elementary, intermediate and secondary school levels special needs group, and other community groups.
  • Serves as OCFRD Liaison to established Firewise Communities.
  • Works with representatives of the Florida State Division of Forestry to identify, and educate at-risk communities in Wildland fire prevention.
  • Assists with Public Education and Life Safety Education related programs.
  • Procures equipment and supplies necessary for program activities.
  • Performs research and technical writing to apply for available grant funding as it relates to Fire and Life Safety and Injury Prevention Education.
  • Assists in writing memos and creating wildfire publications.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Associates degree and two (2) years of experience in Public Education or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess and maintain either a valid Florida Driver’s License or a Florida Class E License. Must be able to work weekends and evenings.
