FIRE RESCUE INVESTIGATOR

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Conducts confidential, administrative investigation of alleged or suspected violation of local, state or federal laws and ordinances or acts of misconduct reported internally or externally regarding Fire Rescue Department employees relative to established County and Department policies and procedures.

Work is performed with independence under the general supervision of the Fire Rescue Program Administrator and is reviewed through conferences, records, reports and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Investigative work performed both in the office and in the field to ensure the confidentiality of administrative inquiries and internal investigations.
  • Locates and interviews complaints, witnesses and employees to gather evidence and facts related to alleged violations.
  • Interacts with personnel from local and state investigators and law enforcement regarding current and pending investigations. Verifies information obtained to establish accuracy of facts and information.
  • Provides consultation, education, and training to department supervisors to provide a systematic, objective, and impartial method of investigating concerns regarding employee misconduct.
  • Assists department supervisors in coordinating all discipline and grievance procedures in conjunction with Human Resources and the Union.
  • Participated in the review of proposed disciplinary action against employees prior to issuance.
  • Maintains all applicable statistical data and continually conducts an analysis of the information in an effort to identify trends. When trends are determined, makes recommendations of the appropriate corrective action.
  • Presents findings and written reports to supervisor in a clear, concise and impartial manner.
  • May testify in court or participate in administrative proceedings concerning findings of investigations.
  • Reviews and coordinates any Departmental programs such as Drive Cam, Citizen Contacts as required.
  • Attends and conducts training as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of responsible investigative experience. Additional years of specified experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Available to be on-call during all shifts, weekends, holidays, as needed
 
Preferences
   State of Florida EMT or Paramedic certifications
