| General Functions |

Develop and implement effective in-service staff training and firearms training programs to insure an efficient, effective and responsible correctional organization. |

| Representative Duties /Assignments |
| |
- Promotes the Department’s Mission and Vision through interaction with Department Staff.
- Coordinates the research, design, and development of training courses, utilizing the results of the Training Needs Assessments.
- Coordinates, schedules, and provides in-service instruction to Department Staff.
- Coordinates, schedules, and provides firearms training for Basic Recruit Academy training.
- Develops and coordinates audio-visual training programs.
- Coordinates administrative functions of the Range Unit.
- Maintains inventory of all Department weapons.
- Tests, diagnoses and repairs department weapons.
- Delivers oral presentations and instructional programs.
- Directs, coordinates, and evaluates work of subordinates.
- Empower subordinates to act through information and training and by providing the necessary support systems to facilitate action, responsibility and accountability. Establishes the scope of authority by defining parameters and guidelines for subordinate staff.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of employee performance reports. Consults with subordinates and immediate supervisors, inspects work in progress, and direct modifications as necessary for complete work.
- Assists in the development of the Division budget based on efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Must be available to work in housing facilities when needed.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
Requires an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field and two years of training and development experience to include developing, coordinating and implementing training programs. Additional years of experience may be substituted for the required education.
Must possess Florida certification as a Correctional Officer.
State of Florida Instructor Techniques School.

| Preferences |
| |
Range management experience (Preferably a minimum of two years)
Possess or be able to obtain within one year of hire armorer certifications in the particular weapons utilized by the department.
Two years of supervisory experience in the criminal justice field.
State of Florida Firearms Instructor School.
State of Florida Defensive Tactics Instructor School.
