| General Functions |
| |
Under the supervision of the Chief of Corrections (or designee) of the Correctional Facility, directs defined/designated administrative/investigative operations of the correctional facility and the assigned employees. Assumes command of and exercises leadership over Correctional personnel as prescribed under Administrative Orders. |

| Representative Duties /Assignments |
| |
- Participates in the selection process for Correctional Sergeants and Corporals.
- Assigns work to Sergeants and, on occasion, to Corporals.
- Prepares performance evaluations for Sergeants and Corporals and/or reviews performance evaluations of Corporals and Correctional Officers.
- Coordinates with internal and external agencies in response to legal inquiries, lawsuits and other litigation.
- Communicates critical information to the Chain of Command that is received in complaints from citizens, staff and inmates.
- Trains shift supervisors to assume the duties and responsibilities of this position on a temporary or emergency basis.
- Assess grievances to ensure potential legal ramifications are addressed.
- Reviews policy and procedure and provides briefings for the Chief of Corrections on changes in subject matter.
- Briefs the Chain of Command on critical incidents.
- Reviews training issues with the Chief of Corrections and the Manager of Professional Services.
- Reviews, investigates and addresses civil rights issues from within the Jail.
- Exercises broad supervisory authority over inmates and correctional personnel.
- Supervises preparation of required administrative records and reports, and participates in the development of annual budgets.
- Assumes command of the facility in the absence of designated authority.
- Investigates unusual conditions and events.
- Plans and supervises on-the-job and emergency plans and procedures training.
- Plans, organizes and completes work assignments in an efficient, effective manner.
- Trains shift supervisors to assume the duties and responsibilities of this position on a temporary or emergency basis.
- Conducts inspections of the facility.
- Responsible for disciplinary action on subordinate staff up to a written reprimand and recommends to senior management for more severe levels.
- Provides briefing input for the Chief of Corrections.
- Performs other duties as required.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
Associate Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent and three (3) years of experience or High school graduate or equivalent and five (5) years experience in corrections, criminal justice or other directly related field, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity as a Correctional Sergeant or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain State of Florida Correctional officer certification within first year of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class “E†driver’s license. Must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
