MEDIA SPECIALIST

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Disseminates information in a variety of formats to the media, Orange County employees, and the general public. Work is performed under the general supervision of assigned supervisor and is reviewed on a regular basis through observations, conferences and results achieved.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
   Duties may vary based on area of assignment:

  • Prepares, reviews or summarizes press releases and provides support to media organizations about Orange County events. Manages the web content of the Chairman’s page and press releases.
  • Develops and creates positive newsworthy media stories.
  • Provides press conference planning. Writes and sends media alerts for press conferences and Board of County Commissioners’ meetings.
  • Expedites and directs routine informational responses to the media, provides media support for public relations and community outreach, and coordinates in-house media communications.
  • Provides media training.
  • Gathers information and photographs from throughout Orange County or other sources for internal publications and educational outreach brochures.
  • Edits articles submitted for publication for grammar, brevity, and clarity.
  • Posts events, flyers, contributes text and images to the Orange County Intranet.
  • Coordinates and implements community events, meetings, school and public outreach programs.
  • Performs related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Associate’s degree and two years of media or public relations, journalism, communications, photography, or audio visual experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training or experience.
