ASSISTANT TO DEPUTY COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR

General Functions
   This position is responsible for a number of varied projects, critical issues, and initiatives, both county-related and community-related, as requested by the County Mayor’s and County Administrator’s Offices. This position works closely with the County Administrator, Mayor’s Staff and Commissioners. An incumbent in this position serves as a liaison for the Public Safety Director and various Public Safety departments that report to the Deputy County Administrator’s Office as well as liaison to outside agencies and organizations such as law enforcement, judiciary, and various community agencies. Timely and accurate responses are required both written and verbal, to County Commissioners, other Elected Officials, Legislators, community leaders, citizens, media and county staff.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Serves as principal liaison for various departments and divisions that report to the Deputy County Administrator’s Office and serves as liaison to outside agencies and organizations.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of special projects and initiatives as requested by the County Mayor, County Administrator, or Deputy County Administrator.
  • Provides support and assistance to the Deputy County Administrator regarding oversight responsibilities for various departments and divisions reporting to the Deputy County Administrator.
  • Assists in the development and completion of various special projects and presentations and other critical issues to the County Mayor, Board of County Commissioners and community representatives. This includes development of white papers, letters, talking points for presentations or
  • Works with Commissioners and staff on projects/initiatives and responds to Commissioners Aide requests and constituent concerns.
  • Prepares and monitors the budgets for the departments/divisions reporting to the Deputy County Administrator in preparation for bi-annual budget and budget work sessions.
  • Participates on committees, councils, and boards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Political Science, Organizational Communications/Management, or other closely related field. Four years of progressively responsible experience involving the coordination of multiple projects and programs concurrently. Must have a high degree of organizational and time management skills: excellent presentation and communication skills; self-initiator with considerable independent judgment in the performance of job duties. Working knowledge of County Government and of it’s various Departments. Must be proficient in a number of computer programs including Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Orange County Advantage Software System, Outlook, and an understanding of Internet research.
