COMPUTER OPERATIONS ANALYST

General Functions
   Develops and prepares statistical reports concerning hardware performance and system throughput capabilities, investigates technical problems in all operational areas. Acts as a Computer Operations Project leader for projects in such areas as new equipment specifications, acquisitions, and installation. Evaluates vendor proposals for purchase of hardware, advises on organizational, procedural, and workflow plans, methods and procedures analysis. Works closely with software and program groups, and performs physical planning for the Regional Computing Center.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Performs studies in the areas of Production Control and Computer Operations concerning technical procedures, operational efficiency, and reliability.
  • Collects and analyzes internal operational statistics and reports to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of each individual unit of the data center operation.
  • Creates reports and graphs indicating trending of computer systems and customer applications uptime and availability.
  • Monitors and reports computer system availability and performance relative to established service level agreements.
  • Analyzes the potential effects of planned equipment changes and new application systems upon the data center operational environment.
  • Designs floor plans and footprint for computer equipment placing.
  • Analyzes power and network requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Science, Computer Science, or related field. Eight years data processing experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities, is acceptable.

Software and Equipment Skills Required

Intermediate to master skill sets of Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Project. Use of MSDOS, 3rd / 4th generation LAN software, Autocad – GIS mapping software, Image editing software and scanners. Working knowledge of IBM OS, JES2, CICS, NETVIEW, Digital VMS, VMS, and UNIX. Personnel Computer software of Windows 95/98/NT JAVA, Scripts, INET and web browsers. Programming languages such as SAS and REXX. Knowledge of computer center UPS, PDU, and power systems nomenclature.

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
 
Preferences
   Experience in a multi-vendor mainframe environment such as the current county environment containing IBM, Digital, UNISYS, and UNIX systems. Medium to large mainframe hardware computer operations physical planning. System automation and monitoring software for referenced systems. Working knowledge of Change Management and Helpdesk methodology, IBM CLISTS, Digital command procedures, programming languages, client server methodologies and mainframe software applications.
