ASSISTANT MANAGER, ANIMAL SERVICES

General Functions
  

Assist in the management and daily operations of the Animal Services Division and enforces the County Animal Ordinance as it pertains to animals, public health and safety.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Oversees the continuation of the Pro-Pet “Just Fix It” Program to insure getting maximum information on program out to the public.
  • Ensures that the clinic and kennels are run appropriately and that ordinance violations are handled properly.
  • Prepares the annual budget and oversees all daily division expenses and purchases.
  • Assists the Shelter and Clinic Supervisors to ensure proper operation of the shelter and the clinic.
  • Prepares division CIP Projects for submission and acts as liaison to Construction Administration, OMB, and other County departments.
  • Maintains the division computer system including working with the Data Center on programs and hardware changes.
  • Responsible for various personnel matters including hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals and related activities.
  • Serves as Division Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Public or Business Administration, a Natural Science, or a related field.

Three (3) years of animal control experience to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.

In lieu of the degree requirements additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
